Job description

Job Description

Salary: $90,000 - 120,000/year

This position allows for 2 days per week remote / work from home.

We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Senior Audit / Assurance Associate to lead financial statement audit and assurance engagements across diverse client industries. In this role, you will bridge engagement leadership and technical execution-guiding client fieldwork, reviewing staff workpapers, resolving complex accounting issues, and serving as a primary day-to-day contact for client management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day audit, review, and compilation engagements in accordance with US GAAP, GAAS, and PCAOB/AICPA standards (as applicable).
• Perform risk assessment procedures, design detailed audit programs, and execute testing across complex balance sheet and income statement cycles (e.g., revenue recognition, debt/equity instruments, leases, inventory, income taxes).
• Assess internal control design and operating effectiveness; document process flowcharts, identify control deficiencies, and draft management letter points.
• Prepare and review clear, organized audit documentation and support schedules in compliance with firm documentation standards.
• Draft financial statements, note disclosures, and required client communications for Manager and Partner review.
• Supervise, coach, and review the work of Audit Associates and Interns, providing real-time technical guidance and constructive feedback.
• Manage engagement timelines, milestones, and billable hour budgets across multiple overlapping client deadlines.
• Proactively monitor engagement economics, identify potential scope creep, and communicate status updates to engagement leadership.
• Serve as the primary operational liaison for client accounting and finance teams (Controllers, CFOs, Accounting Managers).
• Manage the PBC (Provided by Client) list process, clearly communicating documentation needs and audit findings.
• Identify potential business issues, process bottlenecks, and opportunities to deliver additional firm services.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (meeting 150-hour CPA licensing eligibility requirements).
• 2-4 years of public accounting experience in financial statement audit/assurance.
• Experience running fieldwork and supervising junior staff on mid-to-large engagements.
• Active CPA license preferred, or substantial progress toward completion (at least 2-3 sections passed).
• Solid technical grasp of US GAAP, GAAS, and standard audit methodologies (knowledge of PCAOB/SOX 404 standards is a plus for SEC engagements).
• Proficiency with paperless audit engagement software (e.g., CCH ProSystem fx Engagement, CaseWare, Thomson Reuters AdvanceFlow) and advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, data manipulation).
• Experience with audit data analytics tools (e.g., Alteryx, IDEA, Power BI) is preferred.
